February 9, 2007

Today's theme was "Night Time/ Sleepy Time"

BOOKS READ:

  • The Noisy Way to the Bed by Ian Wybrow

  • Goodnight, my Duckling by Nancy Tafuri

  • Song of Night by Katherine Riley Nakamura

  • Little Donkey Close Your Eyes by Margaret Wise Brown

FINGER PLAYS :

  • Wee Willie Winkie

    Wee Willie Winkie
    Runs through the town,
    Upstairs and downstairs
    In his nightgown,
    Rapping at the window,
    Crying through the lock,
"Are the children in their beds, for now it's eight o'clock?"

  • Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed

Five little monkeys jumping on the bed,
One fell off and bumped his head.
Mama called the doctor and the doctor said,"
No more monkeys jumping on the bed!"
Four little monkeys jumping on the bed,
One fell off and bumped her head.
Papa called the doctor and the doctor said,
"No more monkeys jumping on the bed!"
Three little monkeys jumping on the bed,
One fell off and bumped his head.
Mama called the doctor and the doctor said,
"No more monkeys jumping on the bed!"
Two little monkeys jumping on the bed,
One fell off and bumped her head.
Papa called the doctor and the doctor said,
"No more monkeys jumping on the bed!"
One little monkey jumping on the bed,
He fell off and bumped his head.
Mama called the doctor and the doctor said,
"Put those monkeys straight to bed!"

(Hold up the number of fingers to match the number of monkeys in the verse, bounce your fingers up and down for "jumping." Hold up one finger each time one falls off, and then hold your head with both hands when the monkey bumps her head. Dial the phone with one finger when the doctor is called, and shake your index finger to indicate "no more monkeys jumping on the bed!")

SONGS:

  • Rock-a- bye Baby

    Rock-a-bye, baby
    In the treetop
    When the wind blows
    The cradle will rock
    When the bough breaks
    The cradle will fall
    And down will come baby
    Cradle and all

    Baby is drowsing
    Cosy and fair
    Mother sits near
    In her rocking chair
    Forward and back
    The cradle she swings
    And though baby sleeps
    He hears what she sings

    From the high rooftops
    Down to the sea
    No one's as dear
    As baby to me
    Wee little fingers
    Eyes wide and bright
    Now sound asleep
    Until morning light
